Social Networking

Social networks have become a crucial part of our lives in the last decade. Besides using it for socializing and entertainment, businesses in particular use social networks to promote their services and products. Today it has become sort of mandatory for businesses to have a social media presence. The reason is simple; that's where people mostly are during the day and it's very easy to catch their attention and potentially start a relationship with new customers. We, as consumers, also greatly benefit from their presence in our pages and pop ups. It means we can easily access necessary product or information, or even request service. The fact that our social networks are all about updated content, business provide their clients with sudden updates and changes.

While the social networks are a great part of our society and helps in so many ways, there are of course, just like with anything else, negative aspect of it. Recently, there has been major news outbreak about the invasion of users' privacy. In Facebook Data Privacy Issues: Facebook Shared Your Data With Its Partners, it states that Facebook shared users' private message with several companies. Automakers, media organizations, and tech companies had access to every single message of ours through apps on Facebook even if users picked an option of not sharing their info.
In NBC2 Investigators: Multi-million dollar scam being used on Facebook, it talks about the constant growth of online scamming. Its presence is as big as ever. People tend to fall for the trap and wire their funds into fraudulent accounts and never receive the products or services promised. It's becoming a big industry and social platforms need to address these issues. I believe with the rise of technology, companies will certainly find a way of combatting such fraudulent activities.

Turning (ON) the Page: Research on Electronic Literature

I chose to do my project on research on electronic literature. The reason why I chose this topic is because this is something that constantly surrounds us and something we can all relate to. Electronic literature has been a steadily growing market. With research on this topic, I'll be able to touch upon several perspectives such as sociological, technological, and educational. I'll discuss how electronic or digital literature is having an impact on the society and how we're adapting to such a big change. While the traditional ways of reading and receving information still exists, the appear of digital literature certainly is making a big difference. And the people's perception and acceptance of such drastic change certainly splits into two sides of opinion.

Privacy

While the new media has been very useful impactful in our day and age, we constantly face a threat to our privacy. While social media platforms with its huge amounts of users are always growing, cybersecurity has certainly been lacking a real protection. Just during the past couple of years, we've had major news about platforms such as Google and Facebook wrongly using its users' saved data including personal information, preferences, pictures, and even location. What's even more worse is when we know that they sell our information for billions of dollars and the companies that invest heavily into obtaining people's data make their business decisions and aim at certain audiences based on the obtained information. Still to this day, we hear news about data breaching which puts us a society in a great jeopardy. It's not at all comfortable to know that your information and even info such as what kind of things you go shopping for are all out there in the open. It'

Next New

While trying to come up with a new technology in my head, I realized that in our day and age we have the luxury of possessing nearly every single technology that's available, useful, and helpful for an average customer like myself. Considering my term paper was about the impact of E-books on our society, I came up with an idea of creating better and more entertaining e books for education. E books that would provide audio and video content while a student scrolls through a text. It would be a very helpful technology and feature overall for all ages whether it's 3rd material with more pictures for the little student or a scholar's complex ideas broken down into well displayed images or video. I can imagine scrolling down the pages and having a nice compact projector like screen on the left that describes and vividly portrays what's written. So certainly, the literature field can use some improvements and newer inventions to make any kind of material easier to grasp.
